Things to see in Patagonia

Valdes Peninsula and Atlantic Coast
Whale watching is definitely the most important activity from July to December in Peninsula Valdes, but if you travel outside those dates remember that the coast is huge and you can visit other penguin colonies and less crowded attractions.

Atlantic Coast

Whale Watching

In case you are traveling during whale season (July to December) it is highly recommended to visit the Peninsula Valdes and do whale watching from Puerto Piramides and visit Punta Tombo where you will find the largest reserve of Magellanic penguins in South America and an abundant colony of Elephant Seals.

Puerto Madryn

Penguins

In case of visiting the Patagonian coast outside the whale season, you can consider other destinations where you will also find penguins, such as Bahía Bustamante and the charming little town of Camarones.

Glaciers and Trekking

Perito Moreno Glacier

A very good option is to cross into Chile by bus or car to visit the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

Ushuaia and Antarctica

Beyond its own attractions such as the Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Beagle Channel, the city of Ushuaia is a departure port for cruises to Antarctica.

What about Ushuaia? Although it does not have a landscape as distinguished as the glaciers or the Atlantic coast. Ushuaia has the Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Beagle Channel and you can take advantage of its access to the sea to embark to Antarctica or to Chile on the Australis Cruise.

Other routes

The lakes are the busiest area of Patagonia, due to their proximity to Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile , the region of the lakes is very wide and includes inhospitable routes such as the Carretera Austral , the route of the 7 lakes, and the area of Chilean towns .

In parallel, Route 40 runs from north to south of Argentina.

Ruta 40

Patagonia is located at the southern end of the American continent. It covers the southernmost provinces: Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands.

If you travel from abroad, you will need a budget of between €2,500 and €4,000 including flights and ground services, hotels, transfers and excursions.

If you travel from the northern hemisphere, keep in mind that the seasons are reversed, from September to March is the best season to travel to Patagonia since it is summer in the southern hemisphere.

The best time to visit Patagonia depends on what activities you plan to do and what weather conditions you prefer. The peak tourist season is from November to February, which is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. However, this is also the busiest time and prices can be higher. Spring (September to November) and fall (March to May) offer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, while winter (June to August) is ideal for skiing and snowboarding.

The trips to Patagonia are long trips since the extension to travel is usually great. The most recommended is to plan your trip for no less than 15 days.
